Blanca Takes Flight: A Jumpsuit Round-up

It’s been a little over a year since we debuted our Blanca Flight Suit pattern. The pandemic had just begun when we were planning the launch, so we had to scramble and do a very scaled down shoot with only Heather modelling. I had to pretend to be a photographer for the first time, and Heather did her own hair and makeup. We made it work. But we had so many samples planned and so many awesome versions in mind that we were disappointed we didn’t get to go all out at the time. Cut to today when I scrolled through our Blanca Flight suit hashtag on IG, and realized not only have all of you brilliant sewists made almost all of the versions we had imagined, you came up with about six hundred more. So with all this inspiration brewing, I thought I would share a round-up of this jumpsuit a year after its launch and hope you get inspired too!

PRINTS

We didn’t get a chance to make any print versions of Blanca for our models and it is just SO GOOD. I love these floral versions but that tartan is mind-expanding! The pattern matching seems scary but I think that work might be worth it (I might have to steal that idea in the fall when my love for plaids goes through the roof). I also adore that print on this archery goddess below. Just gorgeous.

DENIM

A classic for a reason, we saw Blanca in just about every weight and wash of denim on the market. While this jumpsuit was designed from bottom weight wovens, a denim with a teensy bit of stretch makes the fit a bit more forgiving and can totally work.

HACKS

Sleeveless! A skirt! Trim! We saw quite a few unique takes on this pattern. I myself will be making a shorts version for summer and I think the sleeveless version is an easy hack and obvious choice for hot weather!

COLOUR BLOCKING

We love how you can use scraps to make the most of your special fabrics. Colour blocking is an easy way to use up all those last bits of canvas or twill that make up the pockets, facings and collars on this pattern. You also ensure there is no other Blanca out there like yours!

LINEN

One of the things that makes Blanca so versatile is how much the fabric choice affects the design. Made up in a cool linen with short sleeves and cropped legs this pattern easily turns into a spring /summer wear! Choose a medium to heavy weight linen to make sure it holds its shape and isn’t too transparent!

TWILL

If you’re in the southern hemisphere where the temperatures are starting to dip let me tempt you with this parade of twill choices. No need to be boring either, workwear gets an upgrade in a peach or RED.

So there you have it! Are you feeling inspired to make a Blanca Flight Suit?! We hope sew!
